Green Brothers Company

Green Brothers was incorporated in Massachusetts in 1928, aceording to Robert Fisher, vice president of R.M. Smythe & Co., a stock research and collectibles company in New York. Green Brothers, based in Springfield, Mass., made candy.

In 1931, its name changed to Tastyeast Inc. After the company re- incorporated in Delaware in 1934, shareholders received one share of dass B stock for every five shares of dass A stock, Fisher said. The company also moved to Trenton, N.J.

In 1941, Tastyeast tried to reorganize under bankruptcy laws. lt was declared insolvent and its dass A and B stock became worthiess, Fisher said.

The son of Swedish immigrants, Wamp Carison, with fellow Nutmeggers Dwight “Red“ Latham and Guy Bonham, formed a group called the “Tastyeast Jesters“ who first performed singing commercials on radio for shows sponsored by the Green Brothers Company of Springfield, Mass., and Trenton, N.J., the makers of Tastyeast candy bars in 1930. Changing their name to “The Jesters“, the group was best known for their novelty songs and snappy patter.

Tastyeast was a chocolate-coated yeast bar made in Boston, a nutritious candy bar intended to stimulate children‘s appetites and had nothing whatsoever to do with Taystee Bread or the Taystee Baking Company.
